Why would two nearly 80-year-old women play on swings and break into locked kitchens?
Sisters Chloe and Jackie Bensen are popular and well-loved residents at Starlight Villas, a senior community in California's San Fernando Valley. Chloe is brash and forthright, while soft-spoken Jackie prefers the shadows. Unknown to all, they share a secret that is the key to their mischief.
Living nearby, Robin Godsen is shattered by the death of his wife Samantha, his best friend for nearly forty years. He isolates himself from everyone, preferring to suffer alone.
Unexpectedly, Robin receives a letter from a management company informing him that his apartment complex is to be demolished to make way for new homes on the site. He
scours the area for a place to live, but everything is so expensive! His friend George, residing at Starlight Villas, convinces Robin to take a simple furnished room in the building until a regular apartment is available. Faced with limited options, Robin grudgingly agrees.
Once settled in, Robin meets Chloe and Jackie, who recognize a lost soul when they see one. As they take him under their wings, it is how they live their philosophy that may have the muscle to knock down Robin's walls and free him from his sadness. And, in the end, he may find himself loving them too.

This was such a fun story, and so relatable. It really explored the moods experienced when a beloved spouse is left behind due to sudden death. It is so in touch with the reality of trying to find a reason to continue enjoying life when a person expects to spend their retirement years sharing the world and all its wonders. Sheldon did an excellent job of touching that nerve of giving meaning to just living a little, when it feels as if the world has been shattered. Best of all, he does it in a rather unexpected and quite pleasing way. Using laughter, friendship, and excitement, he brings to life the need to move on, even through the senior years, when it feels like life has lost its purpose. I think this would be an excellent book to give to any newly grieving widow or widower, to give them a little boost through the hardship of adjusting to life on their own.Product details

In this "page turner" (I read the whole book in just two sessions),
Sheldon demonstrates his ability to get into the heads of the older characters.
He does this with a bit of mystery, a bit of empathy and a bit of humor all intertwined.
That I well knew the setting of the story, and was able to visually follow the main characters' in their escapades,
just added to the pleasure of the reading. I especially recommend this book to anyone wondering about life in the "Golden Years"!
